Track 3 – Strategies for historic preservation and contemporary design: A Master Plan for Spring Park

Every landscape has a story to tell. However, some layers of that narrative are sometimes hidden, and thus require a process of exploration to uncover the meaning and substance that characterizes its sense of place. For Spring Park in Denham Springs, a park that contains the original spring upon which the city was founded, this process utilized a mix of strategies in historic preservation and contemporary design to tell the rich and complex history of the site’s cultural and physical landscapes. Participants will learn the design process employed during Spring Park’s master planning efforts as a guide for how this approach might be implemented in their respective communities.
