The Horry County Museum presents a free traditional bluegrass concert by Sawgrass on Saturday, October 17th, at 1:00 PM.
Since forming in 1998, Sawgrass has become a longtime fixture in the bluegrass community, known for its distinctive sound, energy, and deep connection to the local music scene.
The current lineup includes founding member Jody Harrison on guitar and vocals, along with Rich Viso on banjo and vocals, affectionately known as “Dr. Banjo,” who has been with the band for nearly 20 years, and multi-talented bassist and sound engineer Corey Merchant. In 2024, the band welcomed Corey Anderson on vocals, whose exceptional voice brings a dynamic new dimension to the group.
Sawgrass frequently features Grammy-nominated musician Jenni Lyn Gardner on mandolin and vocals. With more than two decades of professional experience and an international touring career, Gardner brings a wealth of musicianship and performance experience to the group. Her background in roots music, touring, and music diplomacy adds another layer to Sawgrass’s sound and live performances.
The group puts its own unique spin on a diverse repertoire, including jamgrass favorites, Grateful Dead music, traditional bluegrass standards, and original songs. Their monthly residency at Chanti’s Pizza, a beloved local venue in downtown Conway, reflects their longstanding connection to the community. With a sound that bridges bluegrass, roots, and improvisational music, Sawgrass continues to bring its own character and energy to the local music scene.
The program is free to the public and will be held in the Museum’s McCown Auditorium located at 805 Main Street, Conway, SC 29526. No tickets or reservations required. More About Horry County Museum
The Horry County Museum was established in 1979 and opened its doors to the public in 1981. The Museum focuses on the history, pre-history, and natural history of Horry County, S.C., and educates the public about these subjects through exhibits, outreach programs, and events. In 2009, the Museum opened the L. W. Paul Living History Farm. The Farm is a re-creation of life on a one horse family farm between the years of 1900-1955. Visitors to the farm can experience what life was like in a farm community during those years and attend quarterly events at the Farm. In 2014, the Museum moved into the renovated 1905 Burroughs School. The school is on the National Register of Historic Places. The move includes increased exhibits, a freshwater aquarium featured on Animal Planet’s hit reality show “Tanked”, and a 600 seat auditorium that hosts public presentations and programs.
