More About Beauty's Haven Farm & Equine Rescue, Inc.

Beauty’s Haven Farm & Equine Rescue, Inc. is a grassroots 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was established in 2006. Our mission is to rescue, rehab, and rehome equine in need, to educate the public about proper horse care, what to do if they suspect a horse that is being abused or neglected, to provide assistance (when possible) to horse owners going through a short period of financial hardship, and to help humans through helping horses.  We try to get youth involved – they are the horse owners of tomorrow.  Awareness and education are key in helping our equine friends.  Through helping horses, we hope to help people.

We give horses that have been neglected, abused, and/or abandoned a chance to begin their life, again – without pain and worry, but with dignity and respect.  We don’t feel there are “unwanted” horses – some are just “misplaced.”  We network with other organizations and individuals to help horses. We try to help before they get into the slaughter pipeline.

We often take in horses that others would not take for various reasons such as requiring extensive and/or costly rehab – we feel they all deserve a chance.  We have taken in horses with birth defects, broken bones, mutilations, cancer, blindness, COPD, Cushing’s disease, are extremely emaciated, and have other serious diseases. We also help other animals (dogs, cats, pigs, goats, etc.) on occasion.  We have taken in babies as young as two hours old, pregnant mares, and our oldest rescue was 43 yrs old! Age and breed to not matter. We offer sanctuary to a limited number of equine with special needs.

Quality of life is always a factor in determining the future of each equine.  We are pro-life.  We do not euthanize any equine to make room for another.  We have an excellent care team that includes professionals in traditional and holistic medicines, dentistry, equine podiatrists, etc.  However, we do euthanize when it is in the best interest of the horse – we don’t deny a peaceful and loving end to any equine that is suffering or has a poor or painful quality of life that can’t be rehabilitated.

Beauty’s Haven is a dream of 40+ years that came true for one of its founders, Theresa.  She grew up with horses and always wanted to help the less fortunate horses – ones that other humans would likely give up on.  Theresa became an incomplete quadriplegic in 1997 and was told she would never walk again.  With a lot of hard work, faith, and support from her family she did regain use of her limbs but she has no sensation or feeling below her neck.  During that time she went through a dark period adjusting to her physical limitations but a discarded and abused Arabian filly named Beauty helped lead Theresa and her family to where they are today - helping horses and helping people!  Theresa has physical challenges as a result of her injury but is dedicated to doing what she believes in.  At Beauty’s Haven, it’s where “Life Begins, Again!”
