THE PICNIC IS COMING! The 97th year of the Shanksville Community Picnic, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Shanksville Volunteer Fire Department is coming on July 31 and August 1 at the Shanksville Community Grove, 1291 Cornerstone Road, Friedens, PA. Join the crowd for good food, live music, and wholesome family fun. Food and games and a huge basket raffle open on Friday at 4 pm. A parade on Main Street steps off at 6 pm followed by a FREE concert by Bon Journey. 75th anniversary t-shirts, mugs, and challenge coins will be on sale all weekend. On Saturday the kitchen opens at 11 am. Activities include the huge basket raffle, a gun raffle, games of skill and chance operating throughout the day, a pickle ball tournament, and a horseshoe pitching contest. Saturday at approximately 2:00 pm, weather permitting, a Blackhawk helicopter will land at the grove ball field. The day's free, live music program begins with the Somerset County Community Band concert at 1 pm, followed by the 80s cover band Ridgemont High taking the bandstand stage at 3 pm. The music grand finale will be provided by the Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band Vicious Cycle starting at 7:00 pm. This event promises a fun time for everyone. Don't miss it!
