More About Robert Stuart Salon

Twenty-eight years ago, Robert Stuart had the idea that quality hairstyling need not be in the domain of the arrogant and the pretentious.

Tired of the “scene” from his years working on 57th Street, in 1983 he opened his first full-service hair salon on Amsterdam Avenue at 82nd Sreet, an Upper West Side neighborhood known more for Zabar’s and psychotherapists than cutting-edge fashion and hair salons.

Since he lived in this neighborhood, he understood very well what Upper West Siders wanted – a personalized style that is easy to maintain and would “grow in nicely”.

In the early 90′s, in the era of corporate mergers, Robert decided to do the opposite. He downsized into a boutique hair salon focusing on hair only and moved to 84th St. on Amsterdam Avenue. He felt that in an era of globalization, a service business like his could at least offer that “personal touch”. He wanted to provide an intelligent approach to hair in a friendly, non-threatening environment where every client could trust that he and his staff understood their hair needs and could deliver uncompromising results.

Now, after 31 years on Amsterdam Avenue, the Robert Stuart Salon has moved and expanded to our new home on 461 Columbus Avenue on the northeast corner of 82nd xSt. on a landmark avenue one block north of the Museum of Natural History and one block west of beautiful Central Park. Intelligent hairdressing is still Robert’s goal, which he has instilled within his team of New York City’s most talented and dedicated hair stylists.

We pride ourselves on paying careful consideration to each client’s hair texture, bone structure, lifestyle, and profession as we believe that hair is not “one look fits all”. All of our products used and retailed are hand-picked for their ability to enhance the health and integrity of the hair and give our clients their desired style. Our loyal clientele keeps returning to The Robert Stuart Salon for the talent of our work as well as the engaging conversation and dedication to customer service.
