More About Lolo's Seafood Shack

"Are you craving some seafood? How about a pile of sauce-covered shrimp or steamed snow crab? Maybe you're looking for the satisfying crunch of fried conch or a savory soft-shell crab sandwich. At Lolo's Seafood Shack, you can enjoy a taste of the coast—or the islands—without ever having to leave New York City!

In the Caribbean islands, a “lolo” refers to a traditional restaurant where you can taste local dishes, seasonings, and flavors. In 2014, entrepreneur and hospitality guru Leticia Young partnered with executive chef Raymond Mohan to create Lolo's Seafood Shack. The goal wasto introduce New Yorkers to the flavors of the Caribbean and provide a new twist on coastal seafood favorites.

Young has more than a decade of experience in the hospitality industry and trained at the French Culinary Institute.Chef Mohan grew up in the South American country of Guyana and used to visit the local street market every day with his mother. His childhood experiences with local foods and spices sparked a lifelong passion for the culinary arts, and he continues to find that same inspiration on the streets of New York.

The menu is a seafood lover's delightand expansive enough to include food for both meat-eaters and vegetarians. Popular dishes combine New England favorites like shrimp andsnow crab steampots with Caribbean street food, like conch fritters, jerk-seasoned ribs, and smoked achiote wings. You can also dig into vegetarian sides, including street corn, wok-seared cauliflower, and “durty rice.” Sandwiches at Lolo's Seafood Shack are served on fresh, homemade bread called “Johnny Cakes.”For extra spice, add any one of their signature sauces.
