More About Wayzata - Free Tree Giveaway
Each spring, the City of Wayzata distributes potted shade trees to its residents, free of charge. It's our organization's way of saying THANK YOU for caring about our community's canopy. Residents are responsible for planting, which is restricted to private property within Wayzata city limits. Wayzata Public Works will deliver the reserved trees on Friday, May 22nd.
This year, we are offering one of Wayzata's finest native shade trees: HACKBERRY Celtis occidentalis (#10 container, 8-10ft height)
The hackberry is an extremely tough, climate-ready tree that is perfectly suited for the Minnesota landscape. It features distinctive cork-like bark and bright gold fall color. Its wide, leafy canopy offers excellent summer shade and the small, purple berries serve as a vital winter food source for local songbirds.
