Three words that can stop time and change your life in an instant: “You have cancer.” The shock is indescribable. You may experience a myriad of emotions like fear, sadness and denial. This is normal. Now imagine that someone reaches out to you and says, “I’ve been there; I can relate to what you’re going through, and I’m here for you.” This pairing of a cancer survivor with a Support Seeker is the mission of the Team Tony Foundation. We offer members of the Suncoast community a lending hand and an open heart during a stressful life-changing moment.
Our tagline is “Shared Steps through Cancer” because a Teammate is someone who, because of their own experience, can relate to the steps the Support Seeker must take. The feelings of sadness, having to tell people, getting treatment, and dealing with medical bills can be overwhelming. Your Teammate has been there. Although no two experiences are exactly alike, only a cancer survivor truly knows how it feels to face that battle. Teammates offer support, knowledge, encouragement, and inspiration every step of the way.
