More About Feral & Functional, Purposeful Forms from Wild Clay

Ology Gallery invites the community to explore the wild side of ceramics in an art exhibit focused on the indigenous beauty of native/wild clay, opening Friday, May 17, at 6PM and running until July 12.

Feral & Functional is a ceramic exhibit of functional and sculptural artwork made from clay that has been sourced directly from nature instead of store-bought. The clay for each ceramic piece was originally harvested in its native condition and treated by the artist to create an organic essence that is evocative of the wilderness from which it came.

The intent of the exhibition is to celebrate the indigenous ceramic mediums that contribute to the identity of clay compositions and to recognize the artists who have returned to a creative process that has been extant for 30 thousand years. Each piece tells a unique story, representing a particular region in the U.S. with its own distinctive geological and ecological history.

Proceeds from Feral & Functional benefit the Islands Feral Cat Project, a 501(c)(3) organization that traps, neuters, and vaccinates feral cats in the Savannah area.
