The 11th annual WGW Community Youth Cup will be held this year on Monday Aug. 29th. An 18-hole tournament will be held at Lodestone Golf Course in McHenry. Lodestone is rated by Golf Magazine as one of the top 5 public courses in Maryland. Golf will begin on August 29th at 10am. Team prizes can be won in the Gross/Net categories through a Captain’s Choice Scramble Format. Additionally, individual prizes will be available on each hole. A buffet will be served immediately after the tournament at the Greene Turtle. Each golf registrant will also receive a variety of gifts for playing in this year’s event.
Once again, the WGW event will have a Kick-off Gala with dinner, music, and silent/live auction. The dinner will be held on Aug. 25th at 6:30pm at the Greene Turtle with doors opening at 5:30pm for a social hour. The event was a huge success last year with approximately 250 guests. The WGW is also widely known for the incredible silent auction items that are on display during dinner. Items include vacations, tickets to top professional and collegiate sporting events, artwork, signed memorabilia, etc. Many items will also be sold during a live auction at the dinner as well as selected items featured at Lodestone the day of the tournament.
The WGW Community Youth Cup raises significant money each year that is given immediately back to the county through Landon’s Library, the Andrew S. Woods Memorial Scholarships, and Samantha Funding the Arts. Hundreds of youth from birth to college are benefitted in some way as a result of the two day event. Over $1.12 million has been raised in the past ten years benefitting 70+ charities and endeavors devoted to the youth of Garrett County.
Registration for the golf tournament and evening dinner can be made through the website. Individuals will have the opportunity to register in a variety of ways to save on the cost.
