Upon arrival, you check in to the Meadowmere Resort (1-207-646-9661) for a one-night stay. The Meadowmere offers contemporary elegance blended with old-fashioned Maine hospitality, and guests can enjoy an indoor heated pool and jacuzzi and a fitness center. (Please Note: The hotel does not have an elevator) Guest room amenities include complimentary wireless internet, refrigerator, hair dryer, and cable television. DAY 2

Following breakfast included at the hotel, you check out and depart for a narrated driving tour of Portland. Your local guide will lead the motorcoach around Maine's largest "city by the sea". See Portland's historic waterfront district and drive by the boyhood home of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, the Victoria Mansion and sea captains' mansions. Learn about Portland's famous citizens and its maritime history as you pass by the working waterfront and the islands dotting Casco Bay. Grab your cameras as we make a stop at nearby Portland Head Light for a photo opportunity of this classic Maine lighthouse situated in Fort Williams Park. Your travels continue to Freeport, home of the L.L. Bean flagship store and a myriad of outlet shops and restaurants. Lunch is on your own with some free time to browse the stores. Afterwards, you will visit Maine Balsam Fir Products specializing in balsam pillows. Using completely natural products, the balsam used is collected on small family farms as a secondary product from their tree-cutting businesses. Learn how they started the factory and walk along the property to see the balsam fir grove and bring home your own little balsam bag to remember your visit. Next, you board the motorcoach and continue your travels through the lake's region to the mountain village of Bethel. Upon arrival in Bethel, you check-in at Sunday River Resort (207-824-5000) where you stay for two nights. Enjoy a spectacular mountain location in New England offering guests a seasonal outdoor heated pool and hot tub, fitness center, onsite lounge, wireless internet, and coin-operated guest laundry. In-room amenities feature a coffee maker, flat screen HDTV, hairdryer, and iron/ironing board. Dinner tonight is included at the hotel. After dinner, relax and unwind by a crackling fire where you can socialize with fellow passengers and enjoy making smores.

DAY 3

Wake to breakfast included before you board the motorcoach and begin your day of touring with a visit to the Maine Line Products store, where you will have the opportunity to shop for inexpensive Maine souvenirs, sample homemade fudge, and see the mechanical man, Woody the Woodworker. A special woodworking demonstration is included on how the specialty gift crates are manufactured there. Next, you will board the motorcoach to depart for the new interactive, Maine Mineral & Gem Museum; with mineral specimens, gemstones, and historical items that tell the story of Maine's mining history, and rare meteorite specimens from the moon and Mars. Lunch today is on your own at a local Bethel restaurant, before returning to the resort for some free time to enjoy the amenities. Late afternoon, you will gather to board the motorcoach and meet a local guide to take the group on a special two-hour scenic tour in Grafton Notch State Park. Stop for foliage photos at mountain overlooks and a local covered bridge. Also, you will travel to the location where you may spot a moose. Afterwards, dinner is included before returning to the resort for the night.

DAY 4

Once again, breakfast is included before you check out and depart for a scenic drive through the White Mountains and a tree-lined corridor with the beginnings of warm autumn colors. A brief stop will be made to take photos of the Jackson Village covered bridge, one of the most photographed in New Hampshire. Next, you will have free time for lunch on your own in the quaint mountain village of North Conway, where you'll find the village green surrounded by boutiques, shops and casual restaurants. This afternoon, you will travel New England's most scenic byway, the Kancamagus Highway, enroute to Franconia Notch State Park. Upon arrival, enjoy New Hampshire's longest scenic gondola skyride to the Loon Mountain Summit for breathtaking views. The enclosed, 4-person gondola travels 1.3 miles up to the summit, don't forget your cameras to capture the spectacular view. Tonight, relive the romance of dining on the rails aboard the Café Lafayette Dinner Train. This beautifully restored vintage Pullman railroad car will take you on a leisurely two-hour ride meandering through the lush forests and magnificent mountain vistas accompanied by an elegant five course feast. Following your excursion, you travel south to the New Hampshire Lake Region to check-in at the Hampton Inn, Tilton (1-603-286-3400) for your final night's stay.
