The Lake Country Players Community Theater Group is proud to present "A Hatful of Rain" by Michael Gazzo, directed by Mark Sardo. This classic drama is set in the post-Korean war era, in a New York City tenement.
The main character, Johnny Pope (James Crane), has returned from the war addicted to his painkillers. His brother, Polo Pope (Wyatt Brower) continues to enable him, even though John Pope, Sr. (Dale George) thinks Johnny is a hero, and Polo is a zero. Johnny's sweet wife Celia (Cassidy Harriger) is unaware of her husband's problem as she focuses on her early pregnancy. No one expects the visit of Mother, the pusher (Gavin Lewis) and his henchmen Chuch (Jack Olcott) and Apples (Conlin Wysocki), and gal friend Putski (Jasmine Helles).
Addiction is horrifying and ugly. It can and does destroy the fabric of families in this show as well as in real life. The chaos created by Johnny's downward spiral is evident from start to finish of this riveting production.
This intense drama is quite a departure from the musical productions that LCP is noted for, and it is also different in that the venue will be the former Middle School auditorium in Watkins Glen on Decatur Street. There are four chances to catch the show: Thursday, Friday and Saturday June 11, 12 and 13 at 7:30PM, and the Sunday matinee June 14 at 2:00 PM. Tickets are available at the door for cash or check only.
