    - The Museum of Miniature Houses features the Sahlberg, an elaborate miniature house measuring 49 inches tall, 72 inches wide and 20 inches deep that has unexpectedly become available for our museum to display. Jimmy Landers and Carl Sahlberg are the main architects. Seven other miniature artisans collaborated on the project, including Linda Orleff of Lighting Bug Ltd. who designed the wall sconces, a two-tier chandelier, and other fixtures, and Barbara Sabia who custom-made the 10-inch high stained glass windows in the library.

Jimmy named this new house the Sahlberg in honor of Carl Sahlberg of Creative Reproductions 2 Scale who created the cabinetry and wired the entire house for electricity. A unique part of the wiring system is that the house is lit with a DC power source instead of an AC transformer. Carl explains, "The DC power source works better. It has a constant current which makes all the lights last longer and being direct current, allow one to use LEDs and newer electronic components such as remote controls. We have over 500 LED bulbs."

Jimmy has been building houses in miniature for many years. His pieces have included the Victorian Helmerich House, the Colonial (Brandywine) dollhouse, the 1900 series of storefronts, the Flatiron Building, the 1909 River Valley Hardware Store, and many others.

The Sahlberg is expected to remain on display through January 6, 2019.

Artist's Statement: I began my career as a professional artist fresh out of the Herron School of Art (1985-89) with a four-person exhibit at Ruschman Gallery in Indianapolis in 1990. In 2017, I have fulfilled a 10-year desire to learn how to work with textiles. In February I did a short apprenticeship with a mascot company in order to learn how to use sewing machines and work with various fabrics so that I could begin to make quilts. In December of 2017, I was awarded the inaugural DeHaan Artist of Distinction Award.

    - Moving is learning! Does your Pre-K child love to dance and move to music? Physical movement is recognized by early childhood experts as one of the primary developmental domains of childhood, and this program is a fun way to combine movement with learning. Children will develop their gross motor skills and coordination as they increase their awareness of musical rhythm and just plain have fun! For ages 4-6. No registration required.

Meet most Thursdays in Noblesville Library 2nd Floor Program Room. Please check with the library directly for updates.

    - Teach your kids about volunteering and spend some quality time with family during Chaucie's Place's Fall Family Volunteering Day! To RSVP, email olivia@chauciesplace.org with how many people you'd like to bring and the ages of your kids so we can get a head count!

Adults and teens can help by pulling weeds, clearing out fallen branches, and stapling worksheet packets. These worksheet packets go to children in local schools to help them understand body safety.

The entire family (including young kids) can help us by raking and bagging leaves. Kids and Teens can also help us by making cards for us to send to local principals, coaches, guidance counselors, camp counselors, etc. who are taking action to keep kids safe! We want to thank them and encourage them to continue making the world a safer place for kids.

Delivered free of charge every December to millions of homes across America, our full-sized, full-color calendar is a time-tested and beloved tool for helping families stay organized. The large date blocks are not only loaded with lots of nearby events and fun things to do, there's plenty of room for you to record your own family's important events like birthdays, anniversaries, parties -- anything you have planned -- so everybody in the house can see them whenever they go to the fridge, out the front door, or wherever you choose to display it.

But there's more! Every calendar is full of coupons from popular local merchants, so you can save money while supporting small businesses right in your hometown.

And don't miss our beautiful full-color photography! Every month you'll recognize a new photo from someplace close to home, submitted to us by a local photographer. If you'd like to have your own hometown photos included in our calendar, please contact your local publisher for more information.

We truly believe it's better to "keep it local". From coast to coast and border to border, our network of franchisees work with organizations and merchants right in their community to make sure you get the information and savings you care about. We prefer to feature family-friendly events that are a short walk or drive away, and coupons from local businesses so you can support your hometown economy.

If there's something happening close to home that folks in your neighborhood need to know about, why not submit it to us today? Please note that publication of your event is subject to approval by your local Town Planner publisher.

If there's no Town Planner calendar in your area, you could be looking at a great business opportunity! Town Planner franchisees set their own hours and can work out of their homes while providing a valuable service to both homeowners and local businesses in the area.
