  • | 6:00pm - 11:00am | Special Interest, Hope Center, cancer survivors, caregiver, encouragement, NWI, Northwest Indiana
    - S.K.I.P.P.E.R.S meets every other Thursday at 6 p.m. at Lowell Church of Christ. The support group is for cancer survivors, spouses, caregivers, teens and children.

Adult sessions offer acceptance, compassion, coping skills and hope. Come together with those who are facing challenges similar to yours. We are often afraid of our wounds, afraid to offer them to others unless they are packaged neatly. This group is a safe space to present your challenges---even the messy ones! Feel accepted, share your experiences, help others, learn coping skills and ultimately find HOPE.

Children's sessions offer games, crafts, snacks and fun. This group offers an environment for children to find HOPE within themselves through Jesus. Children learn about feelings and emotions---what they are what they might look like and how to handle them. No child is required to share their situation, but they will periodically be asked if they would like to share.

All groups have at least one facilitator. Kerri Midkiff facilitates the Cancer Survivor Group. Dick and Judy Downs facilitate the Caregiver/Family/Friend group. The facilitator for the Children's Group, grades 1 to 5, is Amanda Huber. The facilitator for the Children's Group, grades 6 to 12, is Robyn Sepko.

If this will be your first visit, please call 219-552-1640 to register!

KickStart Soccer classes develop fundamental soccer skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting and trapping. In addition, general fitness and motor skills such as running, balancing and jumping are also emphasized. For older classes, game situations and small sided scrimmages are introduced.

Our MultiSport Program is a combination of the most popular activities from each of our programs and is designed to introduce beginner athletes to the fundamentals of baseball, soccer and football. Each week’s class will focus on fundamental skills for one sport. Our "SportStarter" classes are for the youngest players, ages 20-30 months, are designed for motor skill development and fitness with a very basic introduction to sports. The 2-year old (28-36 months) multisport class focuses more on sports skill development in baseball and soccer (no football), while classes for ages 3 to 6 provide an introduction to baseball, soccer and football.

If you are the type that will WALK MILES TO GET TO A SECLUDED BEACH, this is your spot. On your way to the beach you will walk through the remnant of the once-widespread wetland system called Cowles Bog. The bog encompasses a marsh surrounding a small fen, where a stand of tamaracks and white pines grows on a floating mat of peat moss. Starting near the guardhouse in the northeastern part of the site, a boardwalk trail passes marshes and ponds that host horned grebes, black-crowned night herons, buffleheads, and a myriad of other water birds. You can hike right out to the beach and back on 4.5 miles of interconnecting loop trails. Two trailheads serve the trail system, each with a portable toilet. Parking is very limited and needless to say there are no lifeguards making the trek out to this secluded beach.

Indiana Dunes State Park encompasses 2,182 acres of beach, dunes, marshes, swamps, hardwood forests, and white pine groves and is surrounded by National Lakeshore lands. The park's 16.5 miles of trails allow you to explore all these habitats, which shelter diverse wildlife and provide excellent birding. Even on the busiest summer days, if you head away from the public beach house, you'll quickly lose the crowds. Scan the open water for ships, beachcomb, and take in the sweeping backdrop of the dunes. Watch birds on the open water, feeding at the water's edge, or from the small bird observatory in the park’s Nature Center. The park provides camping, picnicking, showers, snack bar, camp store, and a park naturalist. In summer, the park offers a small gift shop and swimming beach with lifeguards. Interpretive naturalist programs are held daily between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and on weekends the rest of the year. Visitors wanting to see or hike tall sand dunes are encouraged to visit Indiana Dunes State Park and do The 3 Dune Challenge (click for details To complete The 3 Dune Challenge, a person must hike a special 1.5 mile course at Indiana Dunes State Park, climbing Mount Jackson (elevation 176 feet), Mount Holden (184 feet), and Mount Tom (192 feet). Some parts of the trail feature 40-degree slopes, making each step that much more, well, challenging. In the sandy vertical climbs, it’s common to take two steps forward and slide one step back. The 3 Dune Challenge’s dunes are significantly higher than the 125-foot Mt. Baldy. As for Mt. Baldy, it is just one of several Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore sites, and the other sites remain open, including West Beach, Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk, Porter Beach, Kemil Road Beach, Dunbar Access Point, Lake View Picnic Area and Central Avenue Beach. Explore this website or call Indiana Dunes Tourism at (800) 283-8687 for more information. Note that Mt. Baldy will remain closed until further notice while scientists investigate unexplained holes that have opened up on its surface. Mt. Baldy is the only site where such issues have been reported.

    - From April through July you'll find sensational hanging baskets and patio pots that will instantly beautify your home, and gorgeous bedding plants to give a splash of color that will last all summer long. We are open Monday – Saturday 8:30a-6:00p.

Come on in and take a look, smell the flowers, and start thinking of warm weather and how you’ll plant your garden. We have a retail garden décor display with garden art, wind chimes, birdhouses and garden supplies for sale. Again this year we’ll have our Saturday kids craft classes beginning May 13, with a Mother’s Day tea cup gift for Mom (or Grandma).

As always, we have combination planters, flower pouches, accent plants, bedding plants, perennials, and vegetable plants. For your convenience, we also offer custom planting. Purchase ours or bring in your empty clean pots and we’ll plant whatever you like. You can also plant yourself in our DIY planting station. No more guess work on what to buy, just bring your pots and plant away!

Come on by and see what we have going on. Our friendly staff will help you make your home beautiful or help you pick out the perfect gift. Remember, life began in a garden!

    - We offer kids classes for ages 20 months - 6 years old and camps for ages 4-7. The classes and camps are for baseball, soccer and football! Camps are weekly, Monday through Thursday with the option of morning (9am-11:30am) or afternoon (1pm-3:30pm).

Lil Sluggers classes develop important baseball skills such as throwing, fielding, hitting, and base running as well as game situations and small sided games. Age appropriate equipment and games are used to teach the game of baseball in a fun, exciting, and positive environment.

    Summer Camps
Each Summer camp is weekly, Monday through Thursday with the option of morning (9am-11:30am) or afternoon (1pm-3:30pm). Camps are for children ages 4-7. Multisport camps include baseball, soccer and football. Camps are drop off camps, where parents may stay if they wish but it is not required. All children being dropped off for camp must be potty trained and able to use the restroom on their own without assistance.
