More About Back in Shape Chiropractic

Dr. Amanda Shorter grew up near Lonsdale, Minnesota playing sports and spending time outdoors hunting, fishing and camping.

Dr. Shorter graduated from New Prague High School. After graduation, she attended University of Minnesota Duluth where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Science. Dr. Shorter attended Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington where she achieved her Doctor of Chiropractic degree.

While at Northwestern, she became involved with competitive weight lifting. This sparked her interest not only in traditional chiropractic spinal and extremity adjusting, but also working with various manual therapy techniques. She is experienced in Webster Technique, Active Release Technique (ART), Graston, Kinesiology Taping and low force adjusting techniques, including Activator.

Dr. Shorter works with patients of all age ranges. She treats newborns, children, athletes and the young at heart! She is now accepting new patients. Most major insurances are accepted including Medicare and Medicaid.

Back in Shape Chiropractic was started by Dr. Dianne Como who retired in 2022. She passed on the practice to Dr. Amanda Shorter who was with her in the clinic for 4 years leading up to Dr. Como's retirement. Dr. Amanda shares Dr. Como's vision of true patient focused care for all.

Dr. Amanda aims to educate her patients about Chiropractic and other natural solutions to common health problems in order to motivate them to take a more active and have a responsible role in restoring and maintaining their own health as well as the people around them.

As a Chiropractor, we understand that although our patients may be diagnosed with the same condition, they respond very differently to treatments. For this reason, we tailor a specific plan of action to meet your needs, goals and physical condition.

Finding a chiropractor who understands changing health care needs and the most current techniques and approaches to addressing health problems can be a daunting task. We hope that you will find this site helpful in learning more about our gentle chiropractic care as well as the ways that it can improve the quality of your life.

Frequently Asked Questions

She is in-network with most major insurance companies including Medicare and Medicaid plans. One thing to know about Medicare, they require an exam, like all insurances, but it is considered a “non-covered service” meaning they will not pay for it. Rarely a supplement or replacement plan might pick it up and cover it but it is very very rare.

- UCare - Medica - Auto Injuries - UMR
- BCBS - Cigna - Zelis Plans - Medicare / Medicaid

Who She Works With
Youngest patient she has worked on was less than 24 hours old and the oldest has been 98 years old and everywhere in between. She has an athletic background as well so she understands what athletes need to play and compete at their best.

Types of Adjusting
-Thompson Technique utilizing the drop table (lower force, less aggressive, table pops up and drops back down with some light pressure from her hands, your body weight assists in the adjustment)
-Activator/ Neuromechanical Impulse (low force, less aggressive, uses a tool instead of hands, ideal for young kids, those with bone density concerns and those who may be nervous about manual adjustments)
-Manual Adjustments utilizing hands for the adjustment
-Webster Technique utilized for women who are pregnant, she was certified for this technique through the ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association)

First Appointment
The first appointment lasts about 45-60 minutes as it entails a review of your complete medical history, orthopedic exam for areas of pain and then treatment. Doctors of Chiropractic are considered Primary Care Physicians which is why a thorough exam is done. The only time treatment would not be done at the first visit is if there is a contraindication to treatment where imaging would need first to ensure no injuries would occur from the treatment.

Free Consultation
The Free 15 Minute Consultation allows you time to ask any questions you have about how she treats, insurance questions (answered to the best of our ability), areas of complaint that you would want worked on to see if it is something we can help with. Feel free to come in with a list of questions! No question is too silly!
**No treatment done at Free Consultation**
