More About Total Solar Eclipse
The attached photo shows the path of the eclipse over North America.
Here in the Chicago area we will not see totality but rather in the low 90% of totality.
As you can see you would need to travel south or east to get the full effect.
In Illinois Carbondale is a prime location and to the east Indianapolis, IN or Toledo or Cleveland, OH. In Carbondale the eclipse will start just before 2pm and last about 4 minutes.
Here in Northern Illinois it will begin after 12:30 with the peak being slightly after 2pm (2:07pm) and it should all be over by 3:22pm.
