More About FTC
WHO WE ARE
The Fairfield Theatre Company is a nonprofit center for the arts and culture located in the heart of downtown Fairfield, Connecticut. We bring together a community of musicians, actors, artists, writers, fans, and supporters who are dedicated to the simple premise that the broadest spectrum of live entertainment and cultural exchange is essential to the vitality of our society.
We believe that our quality of life is richly influenced by opportunities to get out and come together in public places to enjoy art, music, theatre, film, arts education and all manner of creative and intellectual discourse, and to participate in these activities to the fullest. To that end, we work diligently to establish and sustain venues for the presentation of concerts, plays, films, visual arts, and arts education. We seek to appeal to the most diverse audience possible, as often as we possibly can. We endeavor to strengthen our community and nurture, enrich, and enlighten the lives of those we touch. Our hope is to make our world a better place one great performance at a time.
OUR HISTORY
Founded in 2000, the Fairfield Theatre Company (FTC) first presented Off-Broadway theater productions in the Quick Center at Fairfield University in 2001. In 2004, FTC moved to its current location at 70 Sanford Street in downtown Fairfield. Shortly afterward, FTC opened StageOne, a 225 seat “black box” theater. FTC continued its programming strategy of Off-Broadway theater productions until 2006 when it transitioned to offering live music. Since then, StageOne, has hosted world class artists like Buddy Guy, Taj Mahal, and Los Lobos and is generally regarded as the best place for live music in Fairfield County.
In 2007, FTC began a run of over 100 shows at the 1450 seat Klein Auditorium featuring world renowned performers like Lyle Lovett, The Doobie Brothers, BB King, and Pat Benatar. In 2013, FTC also began presenting shows at Norwalk Concert Hall featuring artists like Gordon Lightfoot, Dave Mason, and Keb Mo. In 2015, FTC opened a second venue on the Fairfield campus now known as The Warehouse at FTC. This 640-seat, configurable performance space, is highly acclaimed by both artists and patrons. Finally, in 2019, FTC opened The Loft, a newly renovated headquarters for FTC staff along with the FTC Education Center, a suite of lesson rooms for its music education programs.
Today, FTC presents over 300 events annually to more than 70,000 patrons including live music, film, comedy, theater, and a variety of other cultural events. FTC also rents its facilities to other non-profits in the community, providing them with a critical source of funding. In addition, FTC offers free music education through its Saturday Kids program as well as theater training through its Summer Cabaret Program; serving over 200 students a year. FTC has been honored as the Business of the Year by Connecticut Main Street and the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, recognizing its contributions to revitalizing downtown Fairfield.
