More About Sugardeer

Sugardeer is an indie project led by Cleveland-based artist Kit Boyle. Their music is resplendent chamber pop inspired by nostalgia, antiques, sweaters, and fear. Sugardeer started in 2021 after Kit, disillusioned by the trappings of modern classical music, decided to put their academic goals on hold and envelop themself in the local indie scene. Through the support of this community and the processing of a strained relationship, Kit self-released the first Sugardeer single, "So, Was It Worth It?" in February 2021, and committed to developing their mixing and production talents. The result is their debut EP, Good Names for Strays–which was released on all streaming services November 17th, 2023.

The album, with its “quirky, yet arresting” vision (a song in life), was met with immediate praise and enthusiasm, placing Sugardeer in Cleveland Magazine’s top releasing artists of 2023. Good Names For Strays is a liberation from a repressive upbringing; from a self-conscious college career; and from an alienation borne of their private disposition. In six richly orchestrated tracks, Kit rearranges their past into a path forward.

Their latest single, “Princess Idiot” was released February 13th 2026. The track departs from their more wistful, contemplative approach to embrace a brash, emphatic sound. The single was well-received critically, regarded as “a cathartic release that signals a broader emotional range—and a band increasingly comfortable with letting tension sit unresolved” by Tits Upon Tyne.

They now are working on a full-length record as they join local bands and organizations in improving the quality of life for the Cleveland DIY scene that did so much for their development as a performer.
