At the dawn of a new century, everything is changing and anything is possible. Set in the volatile melting pot of turn-of-the-century New York, three distinctly American tales are woven together – that of a stifled upper-class wife, a determined Jewish immigrant and a daring young Harlem musician – united by their courage, compassion and belief in the promise of the future. Together, they confront history's timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair... and what it means to live in America. Written by the award-winning composer/lyricist team of Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens (Anastasia, Seussical), noted playwright Terrence McNally, and based on E.L. Doctorow's distinguished novel this acclaimed musical is filled with pageantry, emotion and hope, bursting onto the stage like no other musical.

Directed by Nick Bowling, Choreographed by Kenneth L. Roberson.

In 1940s Chile, Pablo Neruda is a seductive poet and committed communist, but an impassioned senate speech backfires, leaving him on the run from political authorities. While hounding his quarry, a dapper inspector (Gael Garcia Bernal) increasingly worries he may be turning into a mere literary device: is a man truly his own author? Director Pablo Larrain (Tony Montero, No) continues his studies of history, ideology and fiction, resulting in an absorbing, enigmatic chase film.

"Identities are always slightly unfixed in Neruda ... [it] reaches dizzying, exhilarating velocity by flouting the conventions of its hidebound genre."

    - When Andrew Makepeace Ladd III accepts an invitation to Melissa Gardner’s birthday party, and Melissa writes a thank-you note to ask just why he got her “The Lost Princess of Oz” (answer: she looks like a lost princess), a romantic friendship and correspondence destined to last for almost half a century is born. The friends communicate with each other through angst-ridden boarding school experiences, European adventures, failed marriages, and the ups and downs of career. Despite the painful differences,, they remain each other’s most trusted confidante, and are “true lovers” on paper, if not on the earth. A.R. Gurney’s Love Letters is a tender, tragi-comic, and nuanced examination of the shared nostalgia, missed opportunities, and deep closeness of two lifelong, complicated friends

The friends communicate with each other through angst-ridden boarding school experiences, European adventures, failed marriages, and the ups and downs of career. Despite the painful differences,, they remain each other’s most trusted confidante, and are “true lovers” on paper, if not on the earth. A.R. - St. Valentine's Day celebrates the feasts of two Christian martyrs of this name. One, a priest and physician, was beaten and beheaded on the Flaminan Way at Rome, Italy, Feb 14, AD 269, during the reign of Emperor Claudius II. Another Valentine, the bishop of Terni, is said to have been beheaded, also on the Flaminian Way at Rome, Feb 14 (possibly in a later year). Both history and legend are vague and contradictory about details of the Valentines, and some say that Feb 14 was selected for the celebration of Christian martyrs as a diversion from the ancient pagan observance of Lupercalia. An old legend has it that birds choose their mates on Valentine's Day. Now it is one of the most widely observed unofficial holidays. It is an occasion for the exchange of gifts (usually books, flowers, or sweets) and greeting cards with affectionate or humorous messages.

    - President's Day observes the birthdays of George Washington (Feb 22nd) and Abraham Lincoln (Feb 12). With the adoption of the Monday Holiday Law (which moved the observance of George Washington's birthday from Feb 22 to the third Monday in February), some of the specific significance of the event was lost and added impetus was given to the popular description of that holiday as President's Day as a day to honor all former presidents of the US, though the federal holiday is still Washington's Birthday. Annually, the third Monday in February.

A fractured fairytale from the creators of Seussical!

The incomparably imaginative creators of Seussical, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, bring one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved tales to life in The Emperor's New Clothes.

Fourteen-year-old Emperor Marcus the Third is nervous to take the throne. Deciding that he can only gain confidence by dressing in the finest attire, Marcus commands his Royal Clothesmaker to fashion him in the most royal wardrobe. Taking advantage of Marcus' uncertainty and immaturity, a Swindler promises to make magic clothes that are "invisible to fools, liars, and anyone you should ignore," for a large and hefty price. Only Arno, the simple-hearted mop boy, can help Marcus out of this royal mess and teach him an important lesson about outward appearance.

  • - A 1,210-pound bomb packed in a van exploded in the underground parking garage of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing six people and injuring more than 1,000 (mostly from smoke inhalation). The powerful blast left a crater 200 feet wide and several stories deep. The cost for damage to the building and disruption of business for the 360 companies with offices in the Center exceeded $591 million. Fifteen people - the fundamentalist Muslim cleric Sheik Omar Abdul Rahman and 14 of his followers were indicted for the bombing. Rahman was given a life sentence, and the others received prison terms of up to 240 years each.

Plot summaries are the enemy of this twisty delight, which offers the addictive pleasures of a best-selling page-turner; the handsome period trappings of an Asian Downton Abbey; and an exploration of sexual imagery as intelligent as it is intense. Suffice it to say that a wealthy, bedridden heiress finds herself seduced by two new arrivals: a handsome count and an attentive female servant. But who is working for whom, and will the heir's desires defeat the love of money?

The Handmaiden is "a fiendishly clever, sinfully funny con-job melodrama ... and quite improbably, the year's most genuinely romantic movie."

Fun things to do in Ingleside

Since 1986 the Town Planner Calendar has been keeping families across America up-to-date about events and other fun things to do right in their hometown.

Delivered free of charge every December to millions of homes across America, our full-sized, full-color calendar is a time-tested and beloved tool for helping families stay organized. The large date blocks are not only loaded with lots of nearby events and fun things to do, there's plenty of room for you to record your own family's important events like birthdays, anniversaries, parties -- anything you have planned -- so everybody in the house can see them whenever they go to the fridge, out the front door, or wherever you choose to display it.

But there's more! Every calendar is full of coupons from popular local merchants, so you can save money while supporting small businesses right in your hometown.

And don't miss our beautiful full-color photography! Every month you'll recognize a new photo from someplace close to home, submitted to us by a local photographer. If you'd like to have your own hometown photos included in our calendar, please contact your local publisher for more information.

We truly believe it's better to "keep it local". From coast to coast and border to border, our network of franchisees work with organizations and merchants right in their community to make sure you get the information and savings you care about. We prefer to feature family-friendly events that are a short walk or drive away, and coupons from local businesses so you can support your hometown economy.

If there's something happening close to home that folks in your neighborhood need to know about, why not submit it to us today? Please note that publication of your event is subject to approval by your local Town Planner publisher.

If there's no Town Planner calendar in your area, you could be looking at a great business opportunity! Town Planner franchisees set their own hours and can work out of their homes while providing a valuable service to both homeowners and local businesses in the area. To learn more about how to become a Town Planner franchise owner, please view our franchise information page.
