    About Canine Companions Rescue Center:
Canine Companions Rescue Center is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation founded in 2004 for the purpose of working with the community and area animal control agencies to promote the adoption of dogs without families. It is our goal to rescue dogs with good family potential. If our adopters and our dogs are both happier after the match, then we've done our job!

Our adoption fee for all of our dogs, regardless of breed, is $200 for adults and $275 for puppies. As part of this fee we will bring your dog up to date medically, including a spay or neuter. The adoption fee also includes a post-adoption vet visit with one of CCRC vets. For more details on what is covered, please see our Health Statement on the Adoption Application page. These services would run over $300 at the vet, so adopting a rescue dog makes good financial sense!

Oakland County Market is a mainstay for providing grower-direct fresh produce and flowers to county residents and visitors. The maket hosts more than 100 farmers and artisans, representing 17 Michigan counties.

A producer-direct market, participating vendors must grow or make the products that they bring for sale during the main season (May-October). During the off season (November-April), vendors may bring approved farm market type items no produced by themselves.

MORE THAN JUST FRUITS AND VEGGIES

Shoppers will find fresh vegetables, fruits and baked goods as well as flowers, artisan crafts and more.

Spend the day at the market and enjoy a breakfast sandwich or barbeque lunch served by market vendors.

The market also hosts many special events and educational programs and can be rented by the public for various purposes.

Not all vendors participate in the market year-round; many are seasonal.

    - St. Valentine's Day celebrates the feasts of two Christian martyrs of this name. One, a priest and physician, was beaten and beheaded on the Flaminan Way at Rome, Italy, Feb 14, AD 269, during the reign of Emperor Claudius II. Another Valentine, the bishop of Terni, is said to have been beheaded, also on the Flaminian Way at Rome, Feb 14 (possibly in a later year). Both history and legend are vague and contradictory about details of the Valentines, and some say that Feb 14 was selected for the celebration of Christian martyrs as a diversion from the ancient pagan observance of Lupercalia. An old legend has it that birds choose their mates on Valentine's Day. Now it is one of the most widely observed unofficial holidays. It is an occasion for the exchange of gifts (usually books, flowers, or sweets) and greeting cards with affectionate or humorous messages.

With the adoption of the Monday Holiday Law (which moved the observance of George Washington's birthday from Feb 22 to the third Monday in February), some of the specific significance of the event was lost and added impetus was given to the popular description of that holiday as President's Day as a day to honor all former presidents of the US, though the federal holiday is still Washington's Birthday.
