    - The 2018 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with Finding Clovis, part of the Carolina Stories Series produced by SCETV. This 30 minute film takes viewers on an archeological adventure at the Topper dig site in Allendale County, South Carolina. Famous for Clovis and pre-Clovis artifacts, there is recent evidence that may support the theory that a comet suddenly wiped out the Clovis culture 13,000 years ago. World renowned scientists offer their opinions about these significant first Americans, where they came from, how they lived, and what may have been their fate.
The film is free to the public and will be shown at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, January 17th, at the Horry County Museum, located at 805 Main Street in Conway.
The Horry County Museum Documentary Film Matinees will continue throughout 2018. For a full list of films, visit our website at click for details. For more information, call the Horry County Museum at 843-915-5320 or e-mail hcgmuseum@horrycounty.org.

Come aboard our pirate ship and get caught up in this real life adventure. Be amazed as our crew taps into the wonder of a child’s imagination. Your child will be painted with a curly mustache or with an anchor tattoo, dressed with a lucky tea sure hunting vest and marched off to the ship.

Once aboard, the young pirates will learn the rules at sea aboard the Sea Gypsy and use a treasure map to find the sunken treasure. As the crew searches for clues, they discover that Pirate Pete, the smiliest, most rotten, pirate on the Seven Seas, is lurking nearby, and he has something our brave crew needs. Off we go into battle with our famous water cannons! Will the crew defeat Pirate Pete and find the sunken treasure!?!
Aboard the Sea Gypsy, we always find the treasure, we always defeat that Pirate Pete, and the children always walk away with incredible stories!

    - St. Valentine's Day celebrates the feasts of two Christian martyrs of this name. One, a priest and physician, was beaten and beheaded on the Flaminan Way at Rome, Italy, Feb 14, AD 269, during the reign of Emperor Claudius II. Another Valentine, the bishop of Terni, is said to have been beheaded, also on the Flaminian Way at Rome, Feb 14 (possibly in a later year). Both history and legend are vague and contradictory about details of the Valentines, and some say that Feb 14 was selected for the celebration of Christian martyrs as a diversion from the ancient pagan observance of Lupercalia. An old legend has it that birds choose their mates on Valentine's Day. Now it is one of the most widely observed unofficial holidays. It is an occasion for the exchange of gifts (usually books, flowers, or sweets) and greeting cards with affectionate or humorous messages.
