    - Memorial Day, an American holiday observed on the last Monday of May, honors men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, at least, it marks the beginning of summer.

    Pamela Mendicino

"My name is Pamela Mendicino, I am the Willoughby Support Group Lupus Facilitator. As the leader of the Willoughby Group, I can relate with many of the attendees at my group because I have lupus as well as other autoimmune diseases. I am married with two beautiful daughters. I have a business background and I use to work in the administrative field. Although I do not work anymore. Recently, my oldest daughter has been diagnosed with lupus as well. In my house, we are all about family and I never let me disease get me down! Though I have had some obstacles, I still stay as positive as I can and pick mtself up and try to inspire others. I have learned many different way of living with lupus, and I try to incorporate that into our meetings. I hope that the attendees of the Willoughby group leave with a positive attitude and not the deafeted mentality they have when entering the group. I try to live life to the fullest and never take a day for granted. My journey as taught me to appreciate simple aspects of life, and to always help others who cannot help themselves."
