  • | 1:00pm - 2:00pm | Local Events, Foodie, Speaker, museum, free, museum, history, seniors, all ages, plants
    - The Horry County Museum and the AVX Foundation present a lecture by David Williams on Wild Edibles on Saturday, August 19th, at 1:00 PM.
Growing on a farm, food often comes naturally from places far from the grocery store. Whether you live in a remote country setting or in the heart of the city, there are tasty foods growing right at your doorstep. Join Artist/Naturalist David Williams for an in-depth look at what to look for when hunting wild foods. During this session, visitors will take part in a question and answer discussion accompanied by a slide show. A limited sampling of fresh and prepared wild foods and drink will be offered after the presentation.
Born in Lexington, NC in 1965, artist David Williams was raised on a farm in a rural community with hundreds of acres of family land to roam. An early interest in Art and Science led to a fine arts degree from Western Carolina University with a minor in Biological Science. College offered the opportunity to hone new artistic skills, roam the NC Mountains and take advantage of elective classes in advanced Science. A fortunate turn of events led to an internship at the NC Zoo that opened his eyes to the wonders of creative interpretation and individual artistic growth.
In 1996, after several years of museum related jobs, David established his own business called Wingin’ It Works. For the past 21 years, the ever changing creative challenges have enabled him to do custom design all over the Southeast. David has honed his outdoor skills teaching field sketching and survival workshops at a Naturalist Weekend in the NC Mountains.
In addition to these classes, he now teaches foraging workshops for nature centers and historical institutions. An avid foodie and amateur gourmet cook, David enjoys sharing wild edibles year round with family and friends. From gardening native edible plants in his garden to tapping maple sap for NC made syrup, he enjoys sharing his knowledge of an ever growing passion.
The program will be held in the Museum’s McCown Auditorium located at 805 Main Street, Conway, SC 29526. For more information, call 843-915-5320 or email hcgmuseum@horrycounty.org. The view a full list of scheduled programs for 2017, visit the museum website at click for details.

  • | 2:00pm - 3:15pm | Birthday, Children's Pirate Adventures Birthday Party
    - Birthday Parties at Pirate Adventures are an AMAZING EXPERIENCE for children and their memories are very important to our crew whether you have a a private charter or a small family gathering on a public boat.

It’s all up to YOU; birthday parties depend on the number of total persons (adults, children, & infants) you expect to ride onboard the Sea Gypsy and whether you want a private group (only who you invite) or an open boat (public).

The Captain’s Quarters birthday party is our MOST POPULAR PACKAGE and is an all-inclusive private party for up to 37 people and costs $695.00. Everything above is included PLUS each child receives an EYE PATCH, TELESCOPE, and our popular SKULLDANA (over a $300.00 value)! After the trip, your group will have access to our birthday party area for presents, snacks, lunch, cake or whatever food and beverage YOU may wish to provide. Our staff will assist with light set up and will provide you will all of the disposable utensils you will need; you simply provide food and beverage.

The Skull & Bones birthday party package is a private party for up to 37 people and costs $595.00. This private experience is only for those mates who you invite onboard to experience our amazing adventure onboard the Sea Gypsy while each child receives pirate face painting, tattoos, a pirate name tag, and secret treasure to take home!

If you have a smaller group you may simply purchase regular priced tickets for all persons you plan to have onboard and you may book any open trip (remember other families will be onboard vs. private) that is available. Even a smaller party is a big deal to our crew! Call for other options on group sizes.

The party picnic area is always available at $55.00 for an hour and we include the disposable utensils while YOU provide and food and beverage.

We have a static schedule for all trip times; however, we typically try to reserve the 9:30, 12:30, or 3:30 (although other times may be available to help accommodate) time slots for private birthday parties. Reserving a private birthday party package requires a 50% deposit to hold your date and time and the balance may be paid upon arrival. For additional information on a private party or any questions please call direct 843.839.4665 and we will help you host your child’s dream birthday!

To reserve a private charter or any number of tickets on an open boat, simply call the ship's store at 843.839.4665 and the reservation staff will assist you with information and available dates and times.

Come aboard our pirate ship and get caught up in this real life adventure. Be amazed as our crew taps into the wonder of a child’s imagination. Your child will be painted with a curly mustache or with an anchor tattoo, dressed with a lucky tea sure hunting vest and marched off to the ship.

Once aboard, the young pirates will learn the rules at sea aboard the Sea Gypsy and use a treasure map to find the sunken treasure. As the crew searches for clues, they discover that Pirate Pete, the smiliest, most rotten, pirate on the Seven Seas, is lurking nearby, and he has something our brave crew needs. Off we go into battle with our famous water cannons! Will the crew defeat Pirate Pete and find the sunken treasure!?!
Aboard the Sea Gypsy, we always find the treasure, we always defeat that Pirate Pete, and the children always walk away with incredible stories!

Fun things to do in Myrtle Beach

Since 1986 the Town Planner Calendar has been keeping families across America up-to-date about events and other fun things to do right in their hometown.

Delivered free of charge every December to millions of homes across America, our full-sized, full-color calendar is a time-tested and beloved tool for helping families stay organized. The large date blocks are not only loaded with lots of nearby events and fun things to do, there's plenty of room for you to record your own family's important events like birthdays, anniversaries, parties -- anything you have planned -- so everybody in the house can see them whenever they go to the fridge, out the front door, or wherever you choose to display it.

But there's more! Every calendar is full of coupons from popular local merchants, so you can save money while supporting small businesses right in your hometown.

And don't miss our beautiful full-color photography! Every month you'll recognize a new photo from someplace close to home, submitted to us by a local photographer. If you'd like to have your own hometown photos included in our calendar, please contact your local publisher for more information.

We truly believe it's better to "keep it local". From coast to coast and border to border, our network of franchisees work with organizations and merchants right in their community to make sure you get the information and savings you care about. We prefer to feature family-friendly events that are a short walk or drive away, and coupons from local businesses so you can support your hometown economy.

If there's something happening close to home that folks in your neighborhood need to know about, why not submit it to us today? Please note that publication of your event is subject to approval by your local Town Planner publisher.

If there's no Town Planner calendar in your area, you could be looking at a great business opportunity! Town Planner franchisees set their own hours and can work out of their homes while providing a valuable service to both homeowners and local businesses in the area.
