Those who have supported the British, the loyalists, thousands of African Americans and American Indians are left to the mercy of the new state.

Welcome to Pirate Adventures of Myrtle Beach! A place where children come to experience the magic of sailing away in search of sunken treasure. Come aboard our pirate ship and get caught up in this real life adventure. Be amazed as our crew taps into the wonder of a child’s imagination. Your child will be painted with a curly mustache or with an anchor tattoo, dressed with a lucky tea sure hunting vest and marched off to the ship.

Once aboard, the young pirates will learn the rules at sea aboard the Sea Gypsy and use a treasure map to find the sunken treasure. As the crew searches for clues, they discover that Pirate Pete, the smiliest, most rotten, pirate on the Seven Seas, is lurking nearby, and he has something our brave crew needs. Off we go into battle with our famous water cannons! Will the crew defeat Pirate Pete and find the sunken treasure!?!
Aboard the Sea Gypsy, we always find the treasure, we always defeat that Pirate Pete, and the children always walk away with incredible stories!

    - The 2019 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with Hallowed Ground: Primitive Camp Meetings of the South Carolina Lowcountry, Part I: Cattle Creek and Cypress Camp Meetings. This film explores various primitive religious camp meetings-the earliest founded in the late 1700s by the horseback evangelist, Bishop Francis Asbury, along with African American evangelist, Harry Hosier, who rode with him to conduct “brush arbor” worship services for white planters and their slaves. In the Dorchester County pine forests of South Carolina these camp-meetings have “tents” built and owned by long-standing extended families from their respective communities. The campgrounds are all located within a 20 mile radius of each other near St. George, SC. At five different times each year these camp-meetings draw more than 3,000 congregants from extended families and friends of families nationwide. These congregants stay for a week and are invited to the “tents” of family members, the worship services, and to enjoy the Southern home-cooked meals prepared 3-times-a-day on wood stoves in each tent during the seven days of camp-meeting.
The film is free to the public and will be shown at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, January 30th, at the Horry County Museum, located at 805 Main Street in Conway.
The Horry County Museum Documentary Film Matinees will continue throughout 2018. For a full list of films, visit our website at click for details. For more information, call the Horry County Museum at 843-915-5320 or e-mail hcgmuseum@horrycounty.org.

  • | 1:00pm - 4:00pm | Local Events, Conferenc; educational; history; museum; tour; free; Presentation; Exhibits
    - Winyah Rivers Foundation and its Waccamaw RIVERKEEPER® program along with its partners, North Inlet - Winyah Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, Coastal Waccamaw Stormwater Education Consortium, and Horry County Museum, invite you to our FREE & FAMILY FRIENDLY public education event to learn about the important connections between our coastal communities and the land, rivers, and ocean. The Waccamaw Conference is an opportunity to increase community involvement in the protection and appreciation of the rivers and coasts that we all depend on. This year’s theme is The Journey of Trash: Pollution to Solution, highlighting common sources and impacts of trash in waterways throughout the Winyah Bay Watershed and what you can do to help. Understanding the journey of trash from land-based sources all the way to the ocean helps communities better protect our local waterways to ensure fishable, swimmable, drinkable water for our future.
The 2019 Waccamaw Conference will feature presentations, interactive exhibits, and a student poster contest. Held at the Horry County Museum, the Conference also presents an opportunity to explore the museum’s exhibits displaying the history of our watershed.
Our speaker this year is Dr. Stefanie Whitmire of the Clemson Baruch Institute of Coastal Ecology and Forest Science. Dr. Whitmire will discuss her research on microplastics on the South Carolina coast in her talk. We will also be hosting “Let’s Get Trashy: Discussing the Journey of Trash with the Experts,” a panel discussion with local experts including Kelly Thorvalson, S.C. Aquarium Sea Turtle Hospital; Ranger Mike Walker, Huntington Beach State Park; Michelle LaRocco, Georgetown County Environmental Services Division; Michael Hughes, Horry County Solid Waste Authority; and Bo Ives, Keep Horry County Beautiful.

Students (K – 12th grade and post-secondary) will be participating in a poster contest that will showcase the work of individuals or groups within the categories of science and art. Posters will be displayed during the conference and special time will be dedicated to allow attendees the opportunity to meet the poster presenters and ask questions.

Join us to celebrate the Waccamaw watershed and learn how you can protect our waters.

Since 1986 the Town Planner Calendar has been keeping families across America up-to-date about events and other fun things to do right in their hometown.

Delivered free of charge every December to millions of homes across America, our full-sized, full-color calendar is a time-tested and beloved tool for helping families stay organized. The large date blocks are not only loaded with lots of nearby events and fun things to do, there's plenty of room for you to record your own family's important events like birthdays, anniversaries, parties -- anything you have planned -- so everybody in the house can see them whenever they go to the fridge, out the front door, or wherever you choose to display it.

But there's more! Every calendar is full of coupons from popular local merchants, so you can save money while supporting small businesses right in your hometown.

And don't miss our beautiful full-color photography! Every month you'll recognize a new photo from someplace close to home, submitted to us by a local photographer. If you'd like to have your own hometown photos included in our calendar, please contact your local publisher for more information.

We truly believe it's better to "keep it local". From coast to coast and border to border, our network of franchisees work with organizations and merchants right in their community to make sure you get the information and savings you care about. We prefer to feature family-friendly events that are a short walk or drive away, and coupons from local businesses so you can support your hometown economy.

If there's something happening close to home that folks in your neighborhood need to know about, why not submit it to us today? Please note that publication of your event is subject to approval by your local Town Planner publisher.

If there's no Town Planner calendar in your area, you could be looking at a great business opportunity! Town Planner franchisees set their own hours and can work out of their homes while providing a valuable service to both homeowners and local businesses in the area.
