    - The Horry County Museum Quilt Gala has become a fixture on the Grand Strand. Started in 1994, the first Gala was held on the lawn of the Horry County Courthouse. Over the years the Gala has continued to grow and is now held at the Ocean Lakes Family Campground Recreation Center in Myrtle Beach.
At the Gala many different types of quilts are displayed which represent a variety of techniques and skill levels. Categories include wearables, large quilts, medium quilts, small quilts, and a challenge. The wearables are handmade garments sewn using a variety of quilting techniques. The challenge category changes each year and is based on preset restrictions. The 2017 challenge theme is “Beatlemania”. Beatlemania all started on February 7, 1964 when the Fab 4 crossed the pond and arrived in the USA becoming one of the most incredible music sensations of the past 50 years. Quilters in this category must choose one of their iconic songs or album titles for their inspiration and create a wall hanging which depicts that title.
Winners of each category will be voted on by the public and will receive a ribbon. The blue ribbon winners from each category are displayed in the Horry County Museum during the month of March.
In addition to displaying quilts, the Gala also hosts demonstrators, speakers, and a featured quilter. Along with the beautiful quilts, local and regional vendors will be on hand to support, consult, and aid the quilter with various quilting merchandise.
The Museum is grateful to have the support of local quilt guilds for many years to aid in the management, set-up, and break down of the Gala.
The 23rd annual Quilt Gala will be held Friday February 24th from 10 am–4 pm and Saturday February 25th from 10am-4pm. Admission is $5.00 per person; children 12 and under are free.

    - Have you ever felt the stress of a deadline or pressure in the workplace? Your neck becomes stiff, you feel your heart rate climbing, and you may even get that feeling in the pit of your stomach. These are the physical effects of stress. Unfortunately, excessive stress response is detrimental to health, well-being, workplace productivity, and overall quality of life.

On the other hand, have you ever had a time where you were under pressure and you were very effective, if not even more effective? Have you ever felt the beneficial effects of having a deadline or working under pressure? If so, then you know that there is a way to channel stress into something that can be advantageous.

And in both scenarios, you’ve probably improvised quite a bit to get through it while questioning your intuitive, in-the-moment decisions. Usually, your intuition is right and believing in yourself is the key to “trusting your gut”.

Dr. Akram Alashari, Surgeon and Gina Trimarco, Motivational Trainer, have partnered to deliver a dynamic, insightful and inspiring three-hour seminar will tools and techniques you can implement today to massively increase your effectiveness and succeed under pressure.

Welcome to Pirate Adventures of Myrtle Beach! A place where children come to experience the magic of sailing away in search of sunken treasure. Come aboard our pirate ship and get caught up in this real life adventure. Be amazed as our crew taps into the wonder of a child’s imagination. Your child will be painted with a curly mustache or with an anchor tattoo, dressed with a lucky tea sure hunting vest and marched off to the ship.

Once aboard, the young pirates will learn the rules at sea aboard the Sea Gypsy and use a treasure map to find the sunken treasure. As the crew searches for clues, they discover that Pirate Pete, the smiliest, most rotten, pirate on the Seven Seas, is lurking nearby, and he has something our brave crew needs. Off we go into battle with our famous water cannons! Will the crew defeat Pirate Pete and find the sunken treasure!?!
Aboard the Sea Gypsy, we always find the treasure, we always defeat that Pirate Pete, and the children always walk away with incredible stories!

  • | 2:00pm - 3:15pm | Birthday, Children's Pirate Adventures Birthday Party
    - Birthday Parties at Pirate Adventures are an AMAZING EXPERIENCE for children and their memories are very important to our crew whether you have a a private charter or a small family gathering on a public boat.

It’s all up to YOU; birthday parties depend on the number of total persons (adults, children, & infants) you expect to ride onboard the Sea Gypsy and whether you want a private group (only who you invite) or an open boat (public).

The Captain’s Quarters birthday party is our MOST POPULAR PACKAGE and is an all-inclusive private party for up to 37 people and costs $695.00. Everything above is included PLUS each child receives an EYE PATCH, TELESCOPE, and our popular SKULLDANA (over a $300.00 value)! After the trip, your group will have access to our birthday party area for presents, snacks, lunch, cake or whatever food and beverage YOU may wish to provide. Our staff will assist with light set up and will provide you will all of the disposable utensils you will need; you simply provide food and beverage.

The Skull & Bones birthday party package is a private party for up to 37 people and costs $595.00. This private experience is only for those mates who you invite onboard to experience our amazing adventure onboard the Sea Gypsy while each child receives pirate face painting, tattoos, a pirate name tag, and secret treasure to take home!

If you have a smaller group you may simply purchase regular priced tickets for all persons you plan to have onboard and you may book any open trip (remember other families will be onboard vs. private) that is available. Even a smaller party is a big deal to our crew! Call for other options on group sizes.

The party picnic area is always available at $55.00 for an hour and we include the disposable utensils while YOU provide and food and beverage.

We have a static schedule for all trip times; however, we typically try to reserve the 9:30, 12:30, or 3:30 (although other times may be available to help accommodate) time slots for private birthday parties. Reserving a private birthday party package requires a 50% deposit to hold your date and time and the balance may be paid upon arrival. For additional information on a private party or any questions please call direct 843.839.4665 and we will help you host your child’s dream birthday!

To reserve a private charter or any number of tickets on an open boat, simply call the ship's store at 843.839.4665 and the reservation staff will assist you with information and available dates and times.

  • | 12:30pm - 1:45pm | Birthday, Children's Pirate Adventures Birthday Party

We hope to see YAAAARGH family this season!
