More About In Our Hands: Gun Culture in America
A juried art exhibition presenting thought-provoking work exploring all perspectives of gun culture in America. The juried exhibit is set to engage a broader audience through art to encourage community dialog about gun violence and inspire positive action. Artists were asked to submit artwork exploring the behaviors, attitudes, and beliefs about firearms and the impact of guns in our society.
Jurors: Jennifer Reynolds-Kaye, the Director of the Housatonic Museum of Art; Mary Himes, co-founder of the Unload Foundation Inc. and former board member of Connecticut Against Gun Violence, and Duvian Montoya, Executive Director of The Norwalk Artspace.
Every American has seen the implications of violence caused by guns in the U.S., leaving tragic marks and fear on the lives of those affected. Artists were asked to create work exploring the behaviors, attitudes, and beliefs about firearms and the impact of guns in our society. Compared to other developed countries, the gun culture of the United States is unique with gun ownership in America being the highest in the world, legally protected by the Second Amendment to the Constitution, with increasingly high levels of gun violence.
Proceeds from this exhibition benefit Sandy Hook Promise and Street Safe Bridgeport.
