More About Stepping Stones Museum for Children

Stepping Stones Museum for Children is an award-winning children’s museum committed to broadening quality educational opportunities for children to enhance their understanding of the world. Located in historic Mathews Park in Norwalk, CT, the private, non-profit 501(c)(3) children’s museum has reached more than eight million people through its exceptional educational offerings, engaging museum experiences and traveling, virtual and onsite workshops and programs. In its 25 years of operation, the museum has doubled in size and extended its reach beyond its walls to serve all of the region’s children, families, schools and community groups. The Stepping Stones family includes more than 6,000 member households. The 40,000 square-foot, LEED Gold-certified museum is an integral, highly-regarded community asset encompassing five hands-on galleries, a state-of-the-art Multimedia Gallery, Celebration Courtyard, an early language and literacy lab school, community gardens, Healthyville® Café and the Shop at Stepping Stones. Along with engaging exhibits, content-rich programming and events are provided throughout the year.

Since opening its doors in 2000, Stepping Stones has a made an unwavering commitment to inclusion and, as such, its Open Arms Accessibility Initiative makes it possible for children from all backgrounds and abilities within our community to have access to the museum and its educational benefits. The museum further extends its programming into the community through a model preschool classroom in nearby public elementary schools and at a local university, school-based workshops and community-based events.
