    - Perry County Council of the Arts (PCCA) will host a book launch for Strange Magic—an anthology of short stories by faculty and students of PCCA’s A Novel Idea writing program.

Faculty and students of two year-long A Novel Idea workshops join forces to offer Strange Magic, an anthology of short stories about magic and strange consequences. Each short story is a take on the writer’s vivid thoughts, images and moments that are real, surreal and fantastical.

Book launch guests are encouraged to arrive at 12 p.m. to enjoy light food and beverages before the program begins at 12:15 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet many of the Strange Magic authors, learn about their creative process and hear them read some of their favorite passages. Copies of Strange Magic will be available for purchase and authors will remain on hand for a book signing at the end of the event.

    - On January 21, 2017 we will unite in Washington, DC for the Women’s March on Washington. We stand together in solidarity with our partners and children for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families -- recognizing that our vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of our country.

The rhetoric of the past election cycle has insulted, demonized, and threatened many of us--women, immigrants of all statuses, those with diverse religious faiths particularly Muslim, people who identify as LGBTQIA, Native and Indigenous people, Black and Brown people, people with disabilities, the economically impoverished and survivors of sexual assault. We are confronted with the question of how to move forward in the face of national and international concern and fear.

In the spirit of democracy and honoring the champions of human rights, dignity, and justice who have come before us, we join in diversity to show our presence in numbers too great to ignore. The Women’s March on Washington will send a bold message to our new administration on their first day in office, and to the world that women's rights are human rights. We stand together, recognizing that defending the most marginalized among us is defending all of us.

We support the advocacy and resistance movements that reflect our multiple and intersecting identities. We call on all defenders of human rights to join us. This march is the first step towards unifying our communities, grounded in new relationships, to create change from the grassroots level up. We will not rest until women have parity and equity at all levels of leadership in society. We work peacefully while recognizing there is no true peace without justice and equity for all. HEAR OUR VOICE.

  • | Arts and Entertainment, Dr. Seuss, musical, live
    - Show times at 1:00pm and 4:00pm.

    Tickets: All seats $15

"Oh, the thinks you can think" when Dr. Seuss's best-loved stories collide and cavort in an unforgettable musical caper! Adapted from the Broadway version, this musical adaptation, especially for young audiences, features The Cat in the Hat as the host and emcee (and all-around mischief-maker) in this romp through the Seuss classics.

When the sweet, good-natured elephant Horton hears a small cry for help coming from a small speck of dust, he promises to rescue and guard it because "a person's a person, no matter how small." Along the way, Horton meets JoJo, an imaginative young Who from Who-Ville; Miss Gertrude McFuzz, the one-feathered bird; and the amazingly lazy Maysie La Bird.

Dr. Seuss's beloved classic characters find themselves intertwined in an incredible crazy-quilt adventure, in which the power of imagination and the most miraculous "think" ever save the day!

This program is approximately one hour in length and is appropriate for audiences in grades K-5.
