    - Bud's Collective is a powerful group of pickers from the hills of West Virginia. While their music reflects roots firmly planted in Bluegrass tradition, they do not hesitate to add to it in ways all their own. Playing a tasteful mix of front man Buddy Dunlap's original material and popular hits ranging from Stevie Wonder to Alabama and all points in between, Bud's Collective has been making waves in the music scene since the inception of the group in 2012.

  • - Join poet, publisher and story-teller, Michael Czarnecki, and local River House poet, John Berry as they lead a day-long poetic retreat exploring where poetry comes from, and how we send it back out into the world. In this program, they will be exploring the ways in which we are able to voice our poetry; through the spoken and written word and how the inspirited Spirit of Poetry asks us to share.

Michael and John will be inviting conversation into living in the present moment, honoring our creative spirit, and listening deeply when Inspiration calls. They will also be exploring the vulnerability of speaking your poem, writing Haiku, and learning to hold nothing back in your writing.

Round robin sharings of poetry throughout the day, and an open mic to cap off the retreat. Each participant will receive a chapbook to be published honoring the event with poems included from all in attendance.

The cost for the event is $50.00 per person, and will be held Sunday, January 20, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. with a rain (or snow) date of January 27

The River House Café will be open all day serving food and beverages (not included in the tuition).

    - Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 11:18-20

Classes for all ages! If you are not involved in a Sunday school class, I really encourage you to find one that you can grow in. Studying God’s Word is never a mistake. Don’t worry if you don’t know the answers, there are teacher’s guides to guide you, curricula to use. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to pronounce every name and place. I’ll give you a hint, the others in your group won’t know the difference.

Will you be there next Sunday?

We should not stop gathering together with other believers, as some of you are doing. Instead, we must continue to encourage each other even more as we see the day of the Lord coming. Hebrews 10:25

  • - Meet January & February's featured gallery artist, Kristen Colebank, and learn about her artistic process!
    ___
    ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I am fascinated by the interplay of pigment and paper. Watercolor is an exciting medium to explore because of its unpredictability, yet the painting process must be tempered by careful decisions. The resulting work becomes a balance of these competing energies. As for my subjects, I seek the extraordinary in the commonplace. I explore the tensions between light and dark values, and I try to develop compositions that will draw the viewer into unexpected, yet meditative, spaces.

    BIOGRAPHY
Primarily self-taught, artist Kristen Colebank has been painting in
watercolor since her first experience with the capricious medium in a high school art class in the late 1980s. She is eternally grateful that her high school had a full-time art teacher and that her teacher
included a lesson on watercolor in the sophomore-level course. A West Virginia native, Colebank currently lives in Hardy County, near the western flank of Great North Mountain.

    MEMBERSHIP and AWARDS
Colebank holds Signature membership with the West Virginia Watercolor Society and is a juried associate artist with the Dickirson Gallery at Tamarack: The Best of West Virginia, in Beckley, W.Va. Colebank’s work has been accepted in national and regional exhibitions hosted by the West Virginia Watercolor Society, Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, Virginia Watercolor Society, and Southern Watercolor Society. In 2013, Colebank won a Merit Award at the biennial West Virginia Juried Exhibition. She also has been featured in three previous solo exhibitions in Harrisonburg, Va., and Lost River, W.Va. In 2019, in addition to The River House exhibition, her work will be featured in a solo exhibition at the Chuck Mathena Center in Princeton, W.Va.

    - Get ready for an epic moon event this month. Overnight from Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019, into Monday, Jan. 21, millions of people in North and South America will have a prime view of a total lunar eclipse. During a special nocturnal hour, the full moon will become fully tinted with the red-orange color of sunset.

The Jan. 21 total lunar eclipse will be the last one until May 2021, and the last one visible from the United States until 2022; the most recent total lunar eclipse previous to this one appeared in July 2018.
