    About
If you are the type that will WALK MILES TO GET TO A SECLUDED BEACH, this is your spot. On your way to the beach you will walk through the remnant of the once-widespread wetland system called Cowles Bog. The bog encompasses a marsh surrounding a small fen, where a stand of tamaracks and white pines grows on a floating mat of peat moss. Starting near the guardhouse in the northeastern part of the site, a boardwalk trail passes marshes and ponds that host horned grebes, black-crowned night herons, buffleheads, and a myriad of other water birds. You can hike right out to the beach and back on 4.5 miles of interconnecting loop trails. Two trailheads serve the trail system, each with a portable toilet. Parking is very limited and needless to say there are no lifeguards making the trek out to this secluded beach.

Indiana Dunes State Park encompasses 2,182 acres of beach, dunes, marshes, swamps, hardwood forests, and white pine groves and is surrounded by National Lakeshore lands. The park's 16.5 miles of trails allow you to explore all these habitats, which shelter diverse wildlife and provide excellent birding. Even on the busiest summer days, if you head away from the public beach house, you'll quickly lose the crowds. Scan the open water for ships, beachcomb, and take in the sweeping backdrop of the dunes. Watch birds on the open water, feeding at the water's edge, or from the small bird observatory in the park’s Nature Center. The park provides camping, picnicking, showers, snack bar, camp store, and a park naturalist. In summer, the park offers a small gift shop and swimming beach with lifeguards. Interpretive naturalist programs are held daily between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and on weekends the rest of the year. Mt. Baldy is closed except for scheduled ranger-led tours, but all other Indiana Dunes beaches and sand dunes are open. Visitors wanting to see or hike tall sand dunes are encouraged to visit Indiana Dunes State Park and do The 3 Dune Challenge (click for details To complete The 3 Dune Challenge, a person must hike a special 1.5 mile course at Indiana Dunes State Park, climbing Mount Jackson (elevation 176 feet), Mount Holden (184 feet), and Mount Tom (192 feet). Some parts of the trail feature 40-degree slopes, making each step that much more, well, challenging. In the sandy vertical climbs, it’s common to take two steps forward and slide one step back. The 3 Dune Challenge’s dunes are significantly higher than the 125-foot Mt. Baldy. As for Mt. Baldy, it is just one of several Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore sites, and the other sites remain open, including West Beach, Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk, Porter Beach, Kemil Road Beach, Dunbar Access Point, Lake View Picnic Area and Central Avenue Beach. Explore this website or call Indiana Dunes Tourism at (800) 283-8687 for more information. Note that Mt. Baldy will remain closed until further notice while scientists investigate unexplained holes that have opened up on its surface. Mt. Baldy is the only site where such issues have been reported.

Munster, IN - My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra, a musical revue at
Theatre at the Center (TATC) in Munster, relives the legendary career of
Frank Sinatra as four actors share more than 50 of his beloved hits that
span the breadth of his career from the 1950s to the 1990s. It begins
previews Feb. 9 and opens Feb. 12 for a run that continues through March 19.

well-known to Chicago audiences for their leading roles in recent popular
productions. Directed by Brenda Didier, she describes My Way: A Musical
Tribute to Frank Sinatra, as "a musical revue set in an elegant nightclub in
old Hollywood where Sinatra and his loves, cronies and colleagues would
    frequent."

The cast includes George Keating, who recently played Felix Unger in Theatre
at the Center's The Odd Couple. Keating, whose Chicago stage appearances
include Disney's The Little Mermaid at the Paramount Theatre, is co-creator
of the hit show Schoolhouse Rock Live in Chicago and Off-Broadway.

more than 50 songs that showcase the iconic success story of a man often
called the "Chairman of the Board" by fellow Rat Pack friends; a man who
enjoyed his role and reputation as a saloon singer, dressed in a tuxedo with
a glass of Jack Daniels in hand, doing what no other performer could do for
    more than 50 years.

    - Dunes Learning Center invites the public to explore its Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore campus at their Summer Camp Open House on Saturday, March 4th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (CT).

This free event offers a day of educational fun in the dunes, as well as opportunities to sample popular activities, meet staff, and ask questions about the upcoming summer camp season.

Overnight and day camps are available for ages six to seventeen, immersing young explorers in the diverse landscape of the iconic dunes that give the learning center its name. While at camp, kids enjoy a full schedule of activities, including trail hikes, camp crafts, learning games, campfire sing-alongs, and a beach party.
“These experiences are more than just fun,” says Erin Crofton, Education Director of Dunes Learning Center. “Camp helps build the confidence, resilience, skills, and friendships that predict success in school, and in life.”

New to the open house this year—a "survival hike," for teen Adventure Campers. The 30-45 minute trek will feature skills and tips for backcountry survival including strategies for locating water, how to identify wild edibles, and techniques for converting natural items into useful tools. Storytelling at the campfire, nature crafts, and a river hike are also scheduled.

Admission is free, but pre-registration is requested. A full schedule of the day’s activities and registration link can be found on the Center’s “events” page at click for details Event partners and sponsors include premier partner, ArcelorMittal; Sustaining Sponsors, Lakeshore Public Media and Lamar Advertising; Supporting Sponsors, BP, Enbridge, and NIPSCO; and event partners Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and Friends of Indiana Dunes.
