    - This History Fair is sponsored by the Soddy, Daisy & Montlake Historical Association and held at the Soddy-Daisy High School. We want to include local histories of the communities of Soddy, Daisy, Montlake, Mowbray and Flattop Mountain. The 1st history fair was held January 16th, 2016. We had 68 tables of local history to include local family genealogies, American Indian artifacts found locally, Civil War relics, nine tables of military uniforms, coal mining relics, local pottery relics and much general history from these mentioned communities. On June 11th we held a second history fair and had the same number of tables with some repeat displays and many new displays.

    - St. Valentine's Day celebrates the feasts of two Christian martyrs of this name. One, a priest and physician, was beaten and beheaded on the Flaminan Way at Rome, Italy, Feb 14, AD 269, during the reign of Emperor Claudius II. Another Valentine, the bishop of Terni, is said to have been beheaded, also on the Flaminian Way at Rome, Feb 14 (possibly in a later year). Both history and legend are vague and contradictory about details of the Valentines, and some say that Feb 14 was selected for the celebration of Christian martyrs as a diversion from the ancient pagan observance of Lupercalia. An old legend has it that birds choose their mates on Valentine's Day. Now it is one of the most widely observed unofficial holidays. It is an occasion for the exchange of gifts (usually books, flowers, or sweets) and greeting cards with affectionate or humorous messages.

  • | 1:30pm - 4:00pm | Arts and Entertainment, Singing, Classes, Workshop, Performing,
    - My name is Garrell Woods, I am a vocalist, vocal coach, and producing director born, raised, and trained in the city of Chattanooga. According to Wikipedia; A vocal coach (also known as voice coach, though this term generally applies to those working with speech and communication rather than singing) is a music teacher who instructs singers on how to improve their singing technique, take care of and develop their voice, and prepare for the performance of a song or other work.

However, few are aware of the negative connotation that surrounds vocal coaches and artistic pedagogy in general. There are a multitude of arts instructors out there who do just that "instruct". Their mission is to train an army of carbon copies of themselves by teaching their students to create the way they create and speak in their voice. My mission as a vocal coach is to guide my students to finding and unlocking the potential of their own voices and beyond that teaching them how to express music with more than just their voice.

That is why I am launching a six week workshop in which students will learn the basics of breath control, singing with their full bodies, and the proper identification of voice parts and registers. The workshop classes will be once a week for 2.5 hours and $100 for the entire workshop(Payment plans can be arranged). I'm Limiting the workshop to 7 students to facilitate that every students gets what he or she needs.

Take a chance and invest in yourself to take your talent to the next level.

    - President's Day observes the birthdays of George Washington (Feb 22nd) and Abraham Lincoln (Feb 12). With the adoption of the Monday Holiday Law (which moved the observance of George Washington's birthday from Feb 22 to the third Monday in February), some of the specific significance of the event was lost and added impetus was given to the popular description of that holiday as President's Day as a day to honor all former presidents of the US, though the federal holiday is still Washington's Birthday. Annually, the third Monday in February.
