  • | 5:00pm - 6:00pm | Library Events, reading, pets
    - Reading to Marvel can be therapeutic and beneficial!

A reluctant reader plus a loving animal can be a powerful combination for reading practice. Reading to a dog, or any pet, gives children a safe environment to practice their reading, make mistakes, and grow as a reader.

Reading to dogs gives children essential extra practice with reading and oral skills. Some children feel that reading becomes less difficult when reading to a dog and are more willing to read aloud at school. Reading to dogs has motivated some children to start reading more at home, especially to their pets.

    - Playing with Legos develops problem solving and mathematical thinking. Following instructions to assemble Lego also has a lot of benefits for children’s problem solving, focus and attention to detail. Ideas of symmetry, balance, shapes and sizes are explored during play with Lego. Children experience working with fractions when they observe how many small pieces can fit into a large piece and can begin to experiment with division.

    - Join us for dinner and a show! Our Murder Mystery trains depart from Cumberland to Frostburg. Dining Class guests enjoy a 3-course meal consisting of a salad, choice of entrée, and a signature dessert of Chef’s choice.

    Spoiler Alert (current day)

The championship driver will be crowned tomorrow as the final race is run in the NAPCAR season. The National Association of Professional Class Auto Racing could be crowning its first female champion as Capulet Racing’s Victoria Lane holds the points lead heading into the all-important final race. Mick Smears of Montague Racing is in 2nd place and would like nothing more than to knock Victoria out of contention (perhaps literally).

Boarding begins at 5:30pm; train departs at 6:00pm. This 3 hour excursion will return to Cumberland at 9:00pm. Advance reservations are required.

NOTE: Murder Mystery shows are designed for an adult audience and may contain some mild adult humor and innuendo not suitable for children.

    - Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 11:18-20

Classes for all ages! If you are not involved in a Sunday school class, I really encourage you to find one that you can grow in. Studying God’s Word is never a mistake. Don’t worry if you don’t know the answers, there are teacher’s guides to guide you, curricula to use. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to pronounce every name and place. I’ll give you a hint, the others in your group won’t know the difference.

Will you be there next Sunday?

We should not stop gathering together with other believers, as some of you are doing. Instead, we must continue to encourage each other even more as we see the day of the Lord coming. Hebrews 10:25

Fun things to do in Springfield

Since 1986 the Town Planner Calendar has been keeping families across America up-to-date about events and other fun things to do right in their hometown.

Delivered free of charge every December to millions of homes across America, our full-sized, full-color calendar is a time-tested and beloved tool for helping families stay organized. The large date blocks are not only loaded with lots of nearby events and fun things to do, there's plenty of room for you to record your own family's important events like birthdays, anniversaries, parties -- anything you have planned -- so everybody in the house can see them whenever they go to the fridge, out the front door, or wherever you choose to display it.

But there's more! Every calendar is full of coupons from popular local merchants, so you can save money while supporting small businesses right in your hometown.

And don't miss our beautiful full-color photography! Every month you'll recognize a new photo from someplace close to home, submitted to us by a local photographer. If you'd like to have your own hometown photos included in our calendar, please contact your local publisher for more information.

We truly believe it's better to "keep it local". From coast to coast and border to border, our network of franchisees work with organizations and merchants right in their community to make sure you get the information and savings you care about. We prefer to feature family-friendly events that are a short walk or drive away, and coupons from local businesses so you can support your hometown economy.

If there's something happening close to home that folks in your neighborhood need to know about, why not submit it to us today? Please note that publication of your event is subject to approval by your local Town Planner publisher.

If there's no Town Planner calendar in your area, you could be looking at a great business opportunity! Town Planner franchisees set their own hours and can work out of their homes while providing a valuable service to both homeowners and local businesses in the area.
