Freedom to Be: LGBTQ+ Journeys in the American Story
May 1 – June 20, 2026 | G.B. Stuart Gallery (History on High Museum Shop)
Freedom to Be explores how LGBTQ+ individuals and communities in Central Pennsylvania, as well as across the nation, have shaped, challenged, and expanded America’s founding ideals of liberty and equality. Through personal stories, artifacts, and voices, the exhibit traces 250 years of identity, belonging, and resilience, from hidden histories to moments of pride and visibility. The American promise of freedom has always evolved. LGBTQ+ people have helped redefine what freedom means — not only for themselves, but for everyone. This exhibit was made possible through the collaboration with the LGBT Center of Central PA History Project.
